Summary & Booking

Dealing with children and young persons can be difficult, our positive handling course, mapped to the requirements of the 2019 Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards provides students with the skills to do so safely. The positive handling course explores the challenging subject of de-escalating behaviour and understanding the psychology of aggression. In addition, we cover a basic range of holding and breakaway techniques. These techniques are all non-pain based and therefore do not inflict pain. It included the role of risk assessments, and emphasis that these interventions are at the end of the intervention spectrum.
With reference to NICE quality standards for behaviour management, the positive handling for foster carers and schools involves a competency assessment and staff will be required to practise these techniques and will be assessed in their competency. In addition, there is a short assessment of learning for audit and CQC evidence.
Due to the physical nature of this course, post- natal learners should seek advice from their GP prior to attendance. All candidates must wear suitable clothing, e.g. tracksuit bottoms, trainers and t-shirt.
All staff WILL BE REQUIRED TO CARRY OUT PHYSICAL SKILLS AND NEED TO DELCARE THEY ARE FIT TO DO SO PRIOR TO COURSE STARTING.
If any candidates are not able to meet the minimum physical requirements of the course they will be asked to discontinue by the trainer.
